Trestleboard           ASHLER LODGE          February 2015

Greetings from the East,

Such a great month has seemed to have flown by again. We had our annual chili cook off again with seven entries this year. Such a great blend of chilies that it was a tough choice picking one to win. I am glad that we were blessed to have our Grand Master Sam Roberts visiting and he chose Brother Dale Miller as the winner. Congratulations to you Dale, yet again you have shown us what a great maker of the red looks like. A huge thank you to all of the entries as I know everyone enjoyed all of the chilies. Not much was left after as it was well attended.

As stated we had the honor of our Grand Master Sam Roberts and Lady Vicki visiting our lodge at Januarys stated communication. Such a great evening as we had about ten of our wives visiting with all, this makes such a better evening when we have our families with us for dinner. We also were served by our Job’s Daughters who performed a ceremony for us which explained to all why they do the closing cross at the end of their meetings. I for one very much enjoyed this as it gives us all a better understanding of their rituals and customs. It was an honor and pleasure to turn the gavel over to the Grand Master and listen to his wise council then watch as he closed our lodge. Always a nice evening when we have such great visitors.

We also had Steve Dahl from Bothell Parks department come award Ashler with a plaque and thanking us for all we do with Music in the Park, along with helping them with all we do throughout the year.

MWGM Sam and I had a few minutes to talk after and one thing he was quite sincere about was how impressed he was on all we as a Lodge are doing in the community, from our Bikes for Books Program to the music in the park, along with the ways we reach out to our youth. He would like us to start sharing all we do with our Masonic Brothers through the Masonic publications and also with our local newspapers. With this in mind WB Gary McPherson and I will be getting the word out and will be asking Brothers for help. If you would like to assist please contact WB Gary or myself.

As always we are starting a new term with several degrees as we have initiated two new Entered Apprentices, which makes three since our installation in December. Last week we also raised Brother Jody Bossert to the sublime degree of a Master Mason so when you see him be sure to congratulate him. Also be sure to meet with out three newest Brothers, Michael McKamey, Justin Strock, and Rachid Zammaoui. Is there any better way to labor than to bestow degrees upon our Brothers? Thank you to all of you who stepped up and helped with all the degree work, and a special thanks to our SW Kevin Haggen who did an awesome job at coordinating the third and playing several positions quite well.

We have moved our Sweetheart Dinner to April 18th. We will be selling ticket to the event starting at the February stated. The tickets will be 40.00 a couple. This will include a choice of great dinners, and your first drink is included, after which will be a no host bar. We will also have a gift for all sweethearts to show them how much they mean to us. Please put this on your calendar as we need to show our sweethearts how much we appreciate them. The Sweetheart Dinner is being held in the potentates lounge at the Nile Country Club, time to be announced soon. If you have any questions, need tickets or would like to help in the organizing of this event please contact myself or Brother Bob Guild. If there is any Brother who finds it a financial burden to attend this event please contact me as we will help, we do not want anyone to miss the fun.

Greetings from the West,

I must pay wages and congratulate Brother Dale Miller for winning the chili cook-off. It seems like it is a back and forth battle between a few brothers each year. All of the effort from all the participants was great as I believe we had 7 entries.

Wages also go out to JW Jeff Sorenson, SD, Chris Elsworth and WB Gay McPherson for their dedication to Job’s Daughters and Rainbow Girls. To go out and give their time and keep us informed of what the girl’s youth groups are up to is awesome.

Wages go out to all of the Brethren who have participated in the past degrees we have had going on. We probably sound like a broken record, but we are busy with degree work! If you would like to participate or just observe from the sidelines, let us know! We can always use the help!

We will have Ashler Street Clean Up on February 21st at 9:00am after breakfast at Steve’s. It only takes about an hour and you get to walk off the breakfast. The best thing about it is that you get to walk with a Brother you probably don’t get to sit next to in Lodge. Gear and equipment is provided, so just dress appropriately and you will be fine.

Greetings from the South,

Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the New Year, 2015 is quickly becoming a very busy year for me. I have taken on Bethel 50 in Snohomish as their grand deputy for Job's Daughters and still trying to keep up with our Bethel 77 daughters. I enjoyed going to our Rainbow girls’ installation, and man can they decorate, it was nice to see our Brothers out supporting the youth so thank you to all that went. I would also like to ask any Brother that can to please consider helping with DeMolay, we have agreed as a lodge to cosponsor TH Little chapter and so far I believe that WB Gary has been alone. Remember brothers these young men are our future and they need our help and support.

Jobie Update from Melody Dorning

Hello Ashler Lodge!

I'm sorry I haven't submitted anything for the Trestle Board for a couple of months. So I will catch you all up on Bethel 77's activities.

In December as you know we attended your Installation and enjoyed every minute of it! The girls loved escorting the officers in and performing the Closing Cross for you.

We went to Snow Flake Lane at Bellevue Square and enjoyed the show they put on and had dinner at California Pizza Kitchen afterwards. You should have seen the faces of the wait staff when all 20 of us came in!

Our Installation was December 13th and our new Honored queen is Zoe Dale. She has a great term planned and we are going to have a lot of fun.We thank all of you who were able to make it.

We served dinner at St. John's Lodge.

We went Christmas caroling at 2 retirement centers and Santa even joined us!

They had their first meeting on December 23rd and it went very well.

The girls went the Rainbow Installation in Bothell and had a great time! They liked meeting the Rainbow girls.

As you know they served the dinner on January 15th for your Grand Masters Visit. They also performed the Cross Talk Ceremony for you and loved doing it as it is a ceremony they have never done before.

The daughters put together a fun event at the Lynnwood Bowl and Skate on January 17th, they had a lot of fun and they got a petition from that event. Way to go girls!

On January 31st the daughters had the opportunity the work the coat check at the Potentate Ball at the Nile in Shoreline.

On February 7th, they have plans to go to the Pacific Science Center for the day.

Our next meeting is February 14th at 7 pm. If you are able to make it, it would be nice to see you there.

Zoe's goal for her term is to promote Bethel 77 and increase membership so that many more girls can have as fantastic a Jobie experience as she has.

Thank you again for all your support as we wouldn't be here without you.
