Trestleboard ASHLER LODGE January 2014
Greetings from the East,
Well, I must say that my first meeting as Worshipful Master went pretty well with the exception of one little problem (thank you WB Chris and VWB Richard for getting us back on track). We got a lot accomplished including: installation of our final three officers, presentation of our Hiram Award, approval of a budget, reading of a new petition, balloting (and approval) on two previous petitions, setting a time for Bro. Eric Blow's MM degree, assigning of a lodge finance audit committee, closing and opening a Lodge of Sorrows, and setting a date for the initiations of our two approved ballots. Phew!
As seems to be the norm at Ashler, we are starting the year fast with petitions and degree work. We are having MM degree practice on the 2nd (before Temple Board) and 23rd with the degree to follow on the 30th. We would love to see any MM's to participate in the degree or simply sideline. WB Gary will be conferring the degree. We will also be having a twofer of EA degrees on the 9th. Brother Dan will be conferring these as well as opening and closing lodge to practice for the Warden's competition later this year.
I would also like to congratulate Brother Dale Miller for his Hiram Award, a richly deserved honor for this brother who goes above and beyond for our lodge. If you haven't had a chance to congratulate Dale, please do. Just as last month ended, there are installations going on in the district. Saturday the 4th brings us the Edmonds installation at 11:00, our Rainbows at 2:00 and DeMolay at 7:00 in Shoreline where the son of Brother Allyn Llyr, Forrest Llyr, will be installed as Master Councilor. Secrets of the Chair will be open to past and current Masters of the Lodge on January 6th in Edmonds. There will be a dinner at Arnie's Restaurant at 5:30 and the presentation at 7:30. Of course, our next stated meeting is on the 16th and we hope to see you there.
It is an exciting time to be a Mason at Ashler and we hope to see you at the lodge

Greetings from the West,
As I move into the west I am seeing our great fraternity and lodge in a different view. This makes me remember why I became a Mason in the first place but each of us has our own special reason so with the New Year upon us let’s look at those reasons and renew our vigor in all we do. We are definitely keeping the Ashler tradition alive by starting the new year of right as we get ready to welcome two new EA’s and raising a brother to Master. I would like to pay wages to Brothers Kevin and Brian for all your work on getting the degrees together. As always we have some great events this year and one of my favorites is the Chili Cook off, bring em on in Brothers and may the best one win! At December’s communication we were very busy with all that needed to get completed but one special item was WB Gary awarding the Hiram award to Brother Dale Miller., A very well deserved recipient indeed. I think the best thing about Dale receiving this is that he had no clue he was even being thought of or deserving of the award. I must saw That is why he is deserving. We as Masons do what we do for our brothers and community without expecting anything in return and that’s what makes a great Mason. Congratulations Brother Dale. If you haven’t had the opportunity to, please take the time to congratulate him of this great award. I would like to wish you and all your families a very Happy New Year.
Fraternally,
Dan Southerland

Greetings from the South,
With the holidays fast behind us, we are already in full swing for the month of January. We will have EA degrees on January 9th and we will be raising Eric Blow to MM on January 30th. I hope to see as many of you as there as possible. If you ever want a part in any degrees, please reach out to me. I am also excited to see what new type of chili we will see at the Annual Chili Cook Off for the January stated. I received a crock pot for Christmas, so you might see something from me this year! Or I might go with a cornbread to compliment one of the chilis. We also have some Lodge things to take care of. We have our Street Clean Up on January 18th just after breakfast at Steve’s and then we will have a small work party to take care of some Lodge beautification things to make sure the building is in as top notch order as possible.
