Trestleboard ASHLER LODGE JUNE 2013 Greetings from the East, I would like start out by thanking my Wardens. While I was out on vacation they proved that I was not needed. SW Roger Kaltenbach opened and closed Lodge, and JW Dan Southerland conferred the first degree for Derik Curtner. I heard nothing but good things about the degree and the work of these two fine Brothers. During our May meeting we discussed the need for a new roof. The one we currently have is over twenty years and is in very sad shape. After much discussion it was moved and passed to authorize the Temple Board to spend up to $100,000 on a new roof. I am sure all will be done to come in under budget. I would like to thank the Past Masters of Ashler Lodge. Because of your work and stewardship of our funds we have the money available for this large undertaking. If you have any experience or thoughts on a new flat roof for the Lodge, please come to the next Temple board. We meet the first Thursday of June at 8PM. The Lodge also voted on marching the Woodinville parade on August 10th. Youth groups and concordant bodies are invited to join us. More information will be given out at our June Stated meeting. The city of Bothell has started work on our parking lot, so our BBQ and bike show that we have at our June meeting have been changed. This year we will do only a BBQ and meeting. The car show has been moved to our annual picnic at St. Edward Park on July 20th. I am very pleased to announce, that at the regional communication in May, WB Chris Haynes received the 2013 District 2 GM Achievement Award. I have attached VWB Beers’s presentation. Congratulations WB Chris on this well-deserved honor. It is with a very heavy heart that I report to you that WB Harvey Menard passed away. A scroll was read in Lodge and many Brothers spoke fondly of WB Menard. He will be missed. I regret that there were only two Brothers at WB Menard’s memorial service. I was out of town, as were many other Brothers, and I am sure some of you would have gone to the service, if you were notified. I will try to do a better job of getting the word out when a Brother passes, but we need to take a look at our schedules. We need to look at what is important, and what Masonry is about. We come to degrees, we come to Lodge but sadly we tend to miss one of the most import events in life, saying goodbye to a Brother. We need to have a larger turnout. Not only to honor our Brother, but to prove to his family and friends, that he was important to the Lodge, and that he will be missed. Fraternally, WB Gary McPherson Worshipful Master gary@mc-pherson.com 425.890.3771 If you are receiving a paper copy of the Trestleboad and would like an e-mail version please e-mail WB McPherson at gary@mc-pherson.com Greetings from the West, Wages are definitely due this month for Brother Dan Southerland for putting together a great degree team for Brother Chris Elsworth’s raising to Master Mason. Many wages are also due to Brother Kevin Haagen for his yeoman work in putting together numerous degrees this year. Wages must also be paid to WB Darin Velin and WM Gary McPherson for bringing home King Solomon’s Pass which identifies Ashler Lodge as the best traveling lodge in the district. Just last month, we passed Brother Kevin Blow to the degree of a Fellow Craft, and raised Brother Chris Elsworth to the sublime degree of a Master Mason (not without some difficulty). Brother Eric and Brother Chris, we look forward to your outstanding posting lectures. It is an exciting time for our lodge and we encourage you all to join us at our stated communications and any of the degree work that you can attend (or participate in). We are also coming into our busy time of the year with Music in the Park, our Summer BBQ, Summer picnic and, hopefully, another initiation this month as we have yet another petitioner for the degrees. We hope to see more of you. Fraternally, Roger Kaltenbach Senior Warden roger@thekaltenbach.com Greetings from the South, It has been a busy month so far and we are still going. We have so many things going on it sure makes it fun to be a Mason. I have lost count of the amount of degrees we have conferred and are still going. I want to thank all you brothers who have helped with the so many positions needed. It is fun to see how we are growing and getting better. If you are interested in helping there are always a need, just contact Brothers Brian, Kevin or myself. Come join the great times. It officially recognizes him for his excellent and extra ordinary service to his Lodge, to this District, and to Masonic principles in general. It is intended for the Brother who, for the past year, displays his commitment, loyalty, and devotion to the Craft. With that set criteria in mind, I have been observing several Brothers in the District throughout this period and at the end, one stands out from the rest to receive this award. The recipient of this year’s award has not only met all the set criteria but also transcend to a new higher level of standard. He is well known throughout the district and this Jurisdiction because of his enthusiastic participation and drive for results. His passion in Masonry is contagious! Within his own lodge he received the Hiram Award from the outgoing master for his dedication to the Lodge and being the driving force/coach/trainer on multiple projects (both Lodge & Temple Board) as well as being the main coach and pushing all members to step up their Ritual. Within the district he has taken over printing and selling the district calendar and has become the coordinator for the District 2 Wardens Retreat. He created an entirely new presentation format for the training and made sure the event happened. He also, without hesitation, directly led the District 2 Deacon and Stewards Training when I had to rush out of town at the last minute. In the Jurisdiction he has been very active as a member of the new Charity Committee, directly assisting VWB Jim in creating materials and direction. He has also been evangelizing/communicating the committee’s progress and direction everywhere he goes. He has been involved with the Masonic Tribune as well as the Long Term Planning Committee and I expect him to be involved with the formalization of the Temple Board materials that RWB David has been putting together. One thing to note Brothers is that this Brother does not try to do this all alone. He is consistently mentoring and encouraging every Brother to participate in any way they can and proactively sharing his knowledge and ideas to anyone who will listen. More importantly he is working side by side with these Brothers to help everyone achieve their goals. He always looks for the best in other people and draws out their strengths. I have personally observed this behavior on numerous occasions both within and without our Fraternity. He is literally the living cement that binds our Fraternity into a true brotherhood and exemplifies in virtually everything he does, that standard that all Masons strive for. I am very proud to welcome WB Christopher Copland Haynes, Past Master of Ashler Lodge #121 into the elite group of Grand Master Achievement Award’s recipients.
