Trestleboard           ASHLER LODGE          November 2014

Greetings from the East,

Well, October has passed us by and I am staring at my last official meeting as your Worshipful Master. Hardly seems like it has been a year since I said “I do” and took the reins from WB Gary. It has been a fun ride and one that I will cherish forever. I will miss sitting in the Big Chair and leading all of you. Some highlights to the year include: starting the Lynnwood H.S. leadership program, Oso relief, aid with the fires in Brewster, expanding the B4B program, our Summer picnic, Music in the Park it has been a very rewarding year for me. It gives me immense pleasure to belong to such a dedicated group of men. I am truly blessed to be a part of this great fraternity and to our lodge in particular.

On to the meeting – we had a “surprise” visit from MWB Sam Roberts which only added to the fun of Step-Up Night but all the positions were handled with their usual aplomb so big kudos to Dan, Kevin, Jeff, Chris and Bob for doing a great job.

We read two new petitions for degrees and assigned investigating committees so we will, hopefully, be having some balloting next month and some more degree work to follow. Following the reading of petitions, we conducted our elections for next year’s officers and Brother Dan Southerland was unanimously elected as your Worshipful Master and graciously accepted. Brother Kevin Haagen was elected Senior Warden, Brother Jeff Sorenson was elected Junior Warden and Worshipful Brothers Mike Olson and Ron Swasey were elected Treasurer and Secretary, respectively, and all graciously accepted. Also, Brother Chris Elsworth will slide into the Senior Deacon’s chair and it is rumored that Brother Bob Guild will step in as our new Junior Deacon so we should see his smiley face lighting up the East in five years.

I would like to take a moment and thank all of these great Brothers for giving of their time to continue to make Ashler a great place to be. Thank you all!

Following announcements, MWB Sam Roberts spoke of his new initiative regarding “Orphan Aprons” and made an earnest appeal for donations of $5.00 each to give these aprons a proper resting place. As is Ashler’s usual style, WB Swasey put forward a motion to donate an amount equal to $5.00 for each of our members and the Brothers in attendance eagerly seconded and approved the expenditure to give this initiative a nice kick-start.

Continuing with the Grand lodge theme, we also voted to help Maryann from Grand Lodge (who is retiring after 39 years of service) with some money to send her and her husband to Hawaii. An appropriate gift for someone that has given so much of herself to our fraternity. Aloha, Maryann!

Worshipful Master Elect, Dan Southerland, and the rest of his newly elected line closed the lodge in due form with MWB Sam delivering the charge in excellent fashion.

Our November meeting should be chock full of stuff including, balloting, posting lectures, our customary Veteran’s Day presentation and a little something from our Jobies so please, if you can make the time, we would love to have you.

Greetings from the West,

I believe there are great wages to pay this month. Starting with all of my excellent Brothers who have seen in me enough of what it takes to elect me as your next Worshipful Master. I am truly grateful and humbled by your confidence. I shall work hard to continue and build on the great blocks that were so expertly laid by the builders who came before me. I also want to pay wages to all our Brothers who have stepped up to serve in the offices for the next year whether they are elected or appointed, I know you all will be awesome as we work together, Thank You All!

Our November stated will once again be a great night filled with some interesting Masonic work being done. Also our dinner is being prepared by our Jobs Daughters and is always one of my favorites. Come on out and spend some time with these great youth as they never disappoint.

Our Installation of Officers will be December 6th at 2:00. This is a great time to come out and spend some nice time with your Brothers and their families. Did I mention there will be cake? The reception should be a fun time with some good food. My two daughters and son in laws are planning a great time.

This next year should be a great time and I am so looking forward to spending time with all my Brothers and their families as we work in the quarries of Masonry making our little corner of this world just that much better for so many people. Again truly thank you all for everything.

Fraternally,

Rainbow update from Cindy Powell

Hello Ashler Lodge Masons,

Bothell Assembly has a very busy month planned for November. Of course, we will be finishing up our Husky Field clean-up for the year. We are still needing more help from anyone willing to meet at the SE corner of the stadium on Sunday either November 9th and November 23rd. We start at 7:00am and wear clothes for the weather. Bring a sack lunch, too, if you feel ready and able to help.

Our 2nd Annual Veteran's Day Dinner is on Monday, November 10th. It begins at 6:00pm with a nice dinner. Please join us for this evening honoring our Veterans. If you can make it, please RSVP to Cindy Powell at momsseven@msn.com or call 425 256-1188. There is no charge for the evening. It's all about YOU!

Another big event coming up in November is our Official Visit of the Grand Worthy Advisor. It will take place at the North Bend Masonic Center on Nov. 22nd at 2:00. We always enjoy having familiar and new faces in the room.

We would love to have new members join us in our Assembly. Please contact Cindy Powell and she will contact perspective members right away.

Our next meeting is Nov. 19th at 6:30pm

Happy Thanksgiving,

Bothell Assembly #47

Jobie Update from Melody Dorning

The girls have been very active this last month. They had their two monthly meetings and we do so appreciate all of you who have visited us. Thank you! Our Grand visitation was fabulous! The girls ritual work was outstanding. We are all very proud of them. They served dinner for St. John lodge this month as well as for Ashler. They went to the haunted maze in Snohomish and had a blast! We passed out candy for Bothell Safe Halloween. The first meeting of November is elections for the Bethel, we are excited to see who will be new to the line. Our Installation will December 13th at 6 pm. I hope you all save that date and join us. Thank you so much for everything.
