Trestleboard           ASHLER LODGE          October 2013

Greetings from the East,

What a great Past Masters’ meeting at our September meeting.  I have said it before and I will say it again.  Ashler is a great Lodge because of our line, and as we learn in the 5th grade lines go in two directions.  In our case our line goes to the past and to the future.  When we look to the past Ashler has a very strong line.  The Brothers, Worshipful Brothers, Very Worshipful Brothers and  a Most Worshipful Brother laid a very strong foundation and then built very carefully on top of that foundation.  Because of them our Lodge is strong.  We have a great place to meet.  We are not struggling financially. We do good ritual work, and we are respected in the community.   Because of this work done in the past my job as Master has been very easy. I just have to not mess things up, and to try to make things a little better.  We can judge that in a couple months.  The future line is very promising.  I have very strong officers.  Both of my Wardens can open and close Lodge, and have conferred degrees.  They have their budgets planned (keeping in mind that we need to be good stewards to the legacy given to us by the past line) and are looking to expand what we are doing in the community.  The choice for Junior Deacon is going to be a very hard one for our next Worshipful Master.  There are a number of strong Brothers willing to step in line and continue the traditions of Freemasonry and the traditions of Ashler Lodge.  I would like to thank all Ashler Brothers for your support. There has been talk of purchasing new pins for the Lodge.  We have a couple of options and in our October Stated meeting will be voting whether or not we should purchase pins, and if so what design to use.  Option 1            Option 2 The October meeting will be a good one, and I hope you can all attend.  WB David Burn will be giving a lecture.  The Jobs Daughters will be giving a presentation.  If that is not enough reason to come we will be holding elections for officers

Greetings from the West,

Brethren what a great Pat Masters Night!  Another full house including 12 past masters, VWB Jim Mendoza and a tribute to WB Bill Leadbetter, who passed to the celestial lodge above. We look forward to seeing as many of you this coming October especially all of you Master Masons to vote on our new line for the coming year and step-up night (always good for a laugh if nothing else. I also want to pay wages to all of the brothers who came to WB Leadbetter’s memorial service. It is, indeed, a great time to be a Mason

Greetings from the South,

What a great Past Masters night we had. What a pleasure to see all the Past Masters that could make it out. I hope you all enjoyed the prime rib dinner prepared by Brother Jared, it was great as always. We now look forward to step up night and elections for the coming year. With all this in mind it leads us to look to our future of this great lodge and know that it is surely bright indeed. We also know that we need to look back and take great pride in knowing that if it were not for the insight of our past brothers our future would not be possible. We owe so much to our past brothers in the lodge  as well as the present but we sometimes forget about that and take what we have for granted. Just take a minute and think about what they all have done and continue to do for the betterment of Masonry. Listen to the stories of how they worked to make this a better place. Really, a three day journey just to make it to Grand Lodge in a horse drawn wagon, and I grumble about going to visit a lodge four miles from my house. I have come to the conclusion that’s it’s all about our mindset! It’s such a great time to be a Mason

Job’s Daughters:

(Submitted by Melody Dorning)

September 7th Bethel 77 had their first meeting after the summer break and we read a petition for membership!  International Day is this Saturday in Canada. We have a couple of girls going to install B.C.'s very first Grand Bethel! We had the Supreme Bethel Honored Queen (who happens to be from Federal Way) and Miss International Job's Daughter (who is from Missouri) visit us at our last meeting. This was quite an honor! They had heard so many good things about our Bethel they wanted to come and see us. The girls are selling See's candy bars so if you see a Bethel 77 member please stop her and buy a candy bar! Our next meeting is October 12th at 7 pm. We plan on having initiation. There will be a potluck before the meeting at 5:30. The daughters have planned a trip to the Haunted Corn Maze in Snohomish on October 19th.  Thank you again for everything. Melody
