Trestleboard           ASHLER LODGE          October 2014

Greetings from the East,

Five years ago I would not have had an inkling that I would be writing a paragraph or two about a “Past Masters” night in a Masonic Lodge. Five years ago I really had no idea what Freemasonry was/is. I used to see my father’s Trestleboard come in the mail and think nothing of it. I used to see the square and compasses on different regalia and paraphernalia but, again, I had no idea what it was. I used to think the “G” was from the G. in the name of my dad’s lodge, Warren G. Harding Lodge in Ohio. I would like to think, sitting in the East this year, and two months from being a has-been, has given me at least a little perspective on what it means to be a Mason.

Yes, we are, at our core, a fraternity; we are a philanthropic organization; we are mentors; we are community leaders; we are great men who realize that without each other we would be lesser men. I think this above all else is the greatest part of being a Mason. When I come to lodge and I see the Masters that have come before me, and the things they have done with their lives, it inspires me to be a better man, a better person. The things that my Brothers have accomplished in their lives make me proud to be associated with all of them and with all of you.

Well, this past meeting started with a presentation and a thank you from our very own Job’s Daughters who performed remarkably at their latest get-together where they competed against other Jobies. Congratulations to the girls for all of their hard work.

We followed this up with a hello to our newest MM, Brother Ray Gries, who is moving quickly through the ranks and should, hopefully, be proving up very soon.

This was followed by regular Lodge business and an impassioned plea from WB Jerry Parton to have Ashler co-sponsor T.H. Little DeMolay. There was much passionate discussion and the lodge overwhelmingly approved the co-sponsorship. Since T.H. Little already meets at Ashler, there should be little to no change in that dynamic. It is hoped, however, that we can find a few brothers to help the chapter.

Finally, all Ashler Past Masters (and WB Bill Harker of WF Meier) were escorted east of the altar where they were introduced and asked to share a story or some wisdom from their year in the East.

As I mentioned in lodge, all of these men gave at least five years of their lives to our lodge and many continued on to serving Grand Lodge in some capacity and, for that, they all deserve special thanks.

Greetings from the West,

Hope this finds all brothers doing well. It has been as always quite a busy month. I would like to start by paying great wages. A huge thank you for the awesome brothers that put on the Wardens and Deacons Retreat at Chateau de Norm. Thank you to VW Norm Watts for again hosting this great event. To MW Chuck McQuery for all you do with Brother Norm to make this a great event. Now to our own VW Chris Haynes as our district deputy he is an inspiration to us all, along with more of ours, VW Richard Beers, WB Ron Swasey. Thank you to all who made this event great. I have had the great fortune to attend all three years and I learn quite a lot each year as this event just gets better each year. I can see why it has now become a guide for so many districts to the future. I know there were a bunch more brothers who helped put this event on, Thank You to all.

We had a great Past Masters night at out September stated with ten Ashler Past Masters in attendance and what made me so inspired was that all ten of these brothers are still active and busy in the lodge, now that’s a great legacy, making us so very strong. Kicked off by an awesome Prime rib dinner made by WB Gary McPherson, Thanks Gary for another great meal!

I know I am forgetting Brothers who are deserved of wages so please now we appreciate you all that help make this a great fraternity.

Looking forward we have so many events coming up. Our October is our step up night with elections. Should be a fun evening as I look forward to seeing you all there. At our November stated we will be blessed with a great turkey dinner being made by our own Jobs Daughters. Looking forward to that as we do every year. For those brothers who were not able to attend our September stated, we voted unanimously to be co-sponsors of TH Little DeMolay Chapter. Thank you to all our brothers for showing the boys we are here for them. I believe this will be a great thing as we move forward. I am looking forward to helping these young men as they grow the chapter to new heights.

Greetings from the South,

I must say that we had an excellent turnout for Past Master's Night. It is also great to see Past masters from other Lodges continue to come join us on the sidelines. That dedication is what inspires me quite a bit!

I also want to thank the Brethren for helping out Job's Daughters and the bake sale they had before the September stated. Every little bit counts and I am sure they appreciate it.

I also want to thank the Brothers who handled Ashler Street Clean Up for me on September 20th. I do promise to be at the rest of them. I am sure there were plenty of Gatorade bottles, cigarette butts, and gum wrappers to go around for all.

For October, we have our official Step Up night. We had an unofficial Step Up night in June I believe, which we totally rocked for the most part.

We will also be having a Ashler Work Party to take care of some things around the Lodge. By doing the work ourselves, it saves the Lodge money. And I can assure you that it is not back breaking work. We have some light painting in the Women's change room, pressure washing the awnings of our tenants, etc.

Please join us for a three course meal for the low price of $10 per ticket. In addition, with the holidays approaching we will be auctioning off help from our Holiday Elves to make your lives less stressful. Some of the help you could win include holiday decorating, baby sitting, gift wrapping, decoration tear-down, cleaning and yard work. If nothing else, come have a wonderful dinner and enjoy the company of the Bothell Assembly Rainbow Girls. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time or at the door.

Veteran’s Day Dinner - Monday, November 10th at 6pm

All veterans, wives and their families are invited to attend a dinner and short program in their honor. It will be a wonderful night to show our appreciation for the service they rendered for our country and our freedom. There is no cost for this dinner. Please come and be our guests. RSVP to Cindy Powell 425-256-1188 or momsseven@msn.com so we can have plenty of food for everyone.

Husky Field Cleanup

Help! Help! Help! We have been desperately short of our contracted number of workers this year. We could use as many people who are willing to donate their time and energy for the last three clean-ups. You can come to one or all. Any help would be appreciated.

We meet at the Southeast corner of Husky Stadium at 7:00am. Dress for the weather and bring a sack lunch.

These are the remaining dates:

Jobie Update from Melody Dorning

This month has been quite busy. The girls have started this month with a bang! They had their first meeting since June on September 13th. Everyone was excited to be there but there was a lot of business to take care of. They performed a majority ceremony for Lyndal Wilson who was a member of Bethel 24 in Everett but that Bethel no longer exists. We went St. John's Lodge in August to thank them for their generosity and provide them with some baked goods, and they were so impressed with our daughters that they asked them to serve their meeting dinners for October November and December! We also served dinner for you gentlemen and had a bake sale. Thank you for allowing us to do that. The girls enjoyed every minute. They had their second September meeting on the 23rd and we were so happy to see a few members of Ashler there. The girls had a youth group game night on September 27th, unfortunately there was no one from the Bothell Rainbow or DeMolay there. But Christopher DiGulio from Bellevue Chapter DeMolay came and had fun. Thank you again for paying for the snacks and pizza at the game night it was very much appreciated. The girls then had a sleepover at the lodge after the game night and church Sunday the next day. Thank you Mr. Elsworth for the yummy pancakes! Our next meeting is October 11th at 7pm. It is our Grand Visitation. We will having a dinner before hand at 5:30. We hope to see you there, it is a big night for us. Ashley has been doing lots of traveling and promoting our organization. She has been very busy and we thank you for your support of her endeavors. The girls are planning a trip to a haunted maze on October 17th. If you know of a young lady who would love to go and have lots of fun with us please let me know, we would love to have them join us. Our second meeting this month will be October 28th. Thank you so much for everything! Melody Dorning
